Township of St. Clair
The Township of St. Clair is currently seeking a motivated individual for a full-time Director of Emergency Services/Fire Chief position. Working directly under the supervision of the CAO, the Director is the Fire Chief for the Municipality and is responsible for the overall operation of the Fire Department, including firefighting, training, fire prevention and all life and property saving areas. The Director is also the Emergency Coordinator and in that capacity is responsible to ensure all plans, programs, and training is current and up to date. This position supervises two Deputy Fire Chiefs, a part-time Administrative Assistant and 182 volunteer fire personnel. The Director is required to attend Council and Committee meetings as needed, as well as, be “on-call” outside of normal working hours on a rotational basis.
This position offers a competitive salary based on a 35-hour work week along with a comprehensive benefits package complete with extended health and dental benefits, and enrollment in OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) pension plan.
Education and Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will possess an NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level 2 or NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level 2 or NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level 2 or equivalent, as well as, the a CEMC (Community Emergency Management Co-ordinator) designation and a minimum of ten years’ experience as a Company Officer, Training Officer or Fire Prevention Officer working in the Fire Department field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
