The Township of St. Clair is currently seeking Summer Students to fill positions at the Sombra Museum as follows:

Curatorial Assistant – Canada Summer Jobs
As part of a team with regular staff, the student will carry out the following tasks:
• Assist with program development, including research, scanning selected negatives to create digital photo exhibits and preparation of school program materials (digital and traditional)
• Assist permanent staff in the development of exhibits, including selection of suitable artifacts, creating safe mounts, painting, and preparation of the cases
• Provide visitor services, including reception (including use of POS system), orientation, and surveying on-site visitors for feedback on their experience.

This position receives funding through Canada Summer Jobs. For candidates to be eligible for this position they must meet the following requirements:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.”

Collections Assistant – Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations Student
As part of a team with regular staff, the student will carry out the following tasks:
• Assisting with a reserve collections development project, including organizing the collection, moving artifacts, photography, creation of supports and enclosures and research.
• Cataloguing of museum artifacts.
• Creation of a showcase exhibit and writing of social media content.

This position receives funding through Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations. For candidates to be eligible for this position they must meet the following criteria:
• be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada (Note: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.).
• be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
• be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.
• be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; and
• not have another full-time job during the YCW work assignment.
• Students in an YCW employment program must also:
• have registered as a high school, college, CEGEP, or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
• intend to return to studies during or after the YCW work assignment.”

The ideal candidate for both positions will be a post-secondary student in a museum studies, library and information science, history, or related field. The candidate should also possess organizational and research skills and the ability to work as a member of a team. Museum experience and database skills would be considered an asset.
